2. Heat Electric Northwest
This Cheshire-based firm expanded in 2023, and now serves regions including Scotland, north Wales, and east England – but its first branch is still the strongest.
The company says: “We take pride in being your friendly, local family business with a national presence”, and it rings true.
Its north west division has perfect Which? ratings for customer service and quality, with reviewers complimenting the firm’s friendliness, skills, and passion for renewable energy.
The family-run business, which is owned by David, Elaine, and Charles Lukeman, installs Eurener and Qcells solar panels, as well as Powervault and Tesla batteries.
David Lukeman told Plumbing, Heating and Air Movement News in 2023: “Having built my own business over a decade, I take great pride in our reputation for reliability and service.
“We are profitable and have been fortunate to attract nothing but great reviews in 10 years. That level of success indicates our level of commitment.”
Reasonably priced. All work carried out efficiently. Any contact I had with all staff was cordial and professional. Thoroughly recommend them. A couple of minor hiccups. But they were dealt quickly.

3. Heatable
This tried and trusted name in boiler installations also now carries out solar installations, using LONGi panels and batteries made by Alpha ESS, Sigenergy, and Tesla.
Brothers Ben and Sam Price have turned Heatable into a behemoth since launching it in 2013, but they still put customers first, as shown by the free online tool they provide to get an idea of what you’ll pay to switch to solar, without talking to anyone.
When you’re looking at those prices though, bear in mind they don’t include scaffolding costs.
It’s also worth noting that the nationwide company’s main focus isn’t on solar, since most of its jobs concern boilers. That may be why it only offers a two-year workmanship warranty on its solar installations.
Also, it does offer solar panel loans, but without any subscription service.
Taken through solar installation process quite seamlessly and when contacted were quite responsive when needed to date change my install. I will use them again for next project in a few years. Thank you to the installation team who were all great guys, very approachable.

4. Evo Renewables
Founded in 2020 as Cheshire Access Hire, the business rebranded four times in three and a half years, speeding through CAH Group, Entire Projects NW, and Entire Electrical before finally landing on this winning formula in June 2023.
Since then, Evo Renewables has gone from strength to strength.
Married couple Ben and Holly Fogg have helped homes all over Cheshire switch to solar, with customers applauding the team’s communicative, knowledgeable, and competitively priced approach.
Ben, who spent some time as a Royal Engineer in the British Army, has received a particularly large amount of praise for his caring, objective advice.
The Foggs, who also found the time to launch a rum company during the pandemic, clearly have the energy to go through all the options until they find the right one for your household.
My house needed planning permission so it’s taken six months to get here. During that time Ben has kept in touch, answering my silly questions and the result this week has been a great looking system. Everything exceptionally neatly done.

How much do solar panels cost in Cheshire?
Property size | Annual electricity usage (kWh) * | System size (kWp) | Number of panels (450W) | Estimated cost ** | Estimated cost with 5kWh battery † |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 bedroom | 1,800 | 2.25 | 5 | £3,929 | £6,929 |
2-3 bedrooms | 2,700 | 4.5 | 10 | £7,858 | £10,858 |
4-5 bedrooms | 4,100 | 6.75 | 15 | £11,786 | £14,786 |
A 4.5kWp solar & battery system costs £10,858 to buy and install in Cheshire, on average.
This system includes 10 solar panels, all of them with a 450-watt peak power rating.
We've also factored in the cost of installing a 5kWh solar battery, as it can significantly increase your returns.
A battery lets you use more solar-generated electricity at home – known as self-consumption – which means you’ll buy less electricity from the grid.
You can also take advantage of the best export tariffs and time-of-use import tariffs, and sign up for one of a number of virtual power plants.
Around 94% of new solar panel installations in the UK include a battery, according to data from Flexi-Orb and the EPVS.
There are lots of reasons why you may end up paying a different amount for your solar panel system, such as its size, the installation’s complexity, and which installer you choose.
To find out everything else you need to know, check out our guide to solar panel costs.

Are there any grants for solar panels in Cheshire?
The only solar panel grants you can currently access in Cheshire are the same UK government grants that are available in most places around the country.
Local authorities in Cheshire East, Cheshire West and Chester, Halton, and Warrington have all received funding from the government’s Warm Homes: Local Grant, and all but one has secured awards via the Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund.
When it comes to local assistance though, there are no solar grants at the moment, as the area’s councils are mainly focusing on funding vital repairs to kitchens, bathrooms, and heating systems in underprivileged households.
Solar Together Cheshire
Residents can regularly sign up for Solar Together, an initiative that allows homeowners and small business owners in an area to get a discount on their solar installations through collective buying.
It’s not a government grant though; it's a scheme run by private Dutch company iChoosr, in partnership with local authorities in England and Wales.
In London, it secured 20-30% discounts for customers, according to the Greater London Authority.
The scheme collaborated with Cheshire West and Chester, Cheshire East, and Warrington’s councils in 2023, 2024, and 2025, leading at least 473 households to go solar.
Solar Together only comes to a few counties every year, and each project is time-limited, so you’ll need to wait and see when it comes back to Cheshire – though it seems likely.
Unfortunately, the scheme also has some substantial drawbacks, so it's absolutely worth doing your research before taking this route. To find out more, read our comprehensive guide to Solar Together.
National grants
There are two national grants that households in Cheshire can apply for – and it’s well worth having a look if you think you might qualify.
Solar panels can cut your electricity bills by hundreds of pounds per year, shrink your carbon footprint, and increase your property’s value, but the upfront cost is generally high. Grants can make them affordable – or free.
To see which schemes you might qualify for, use our grant eligibility checker.
Energy Company Obligation (ECO4)
ECO4 is the government’s primary scheme for reducing residential emissions – and if you’re in a low-income or vulnerable household with a resident who receives a qualifying benefit, you may be able to get some funding.
Unfortunately, the scheme is due to end in December 2026.
Until then, the government will keep compelling large energy suppliers to make energy-efficient upgrades in underprivileged homes, at no cost to the residents.
The initiative can get you a free solar panel system, as it has done for more than 65,000 households – but only if your household is heated with electricity, as 11.2% in England are.
To learn more, read our full guide to the ECO4 scheme.
Warm Homes: Local Grant
This government initiative awards funding to local authorities in England that they can use to improve the energy efficiency and heating systems of eligible households.
The programme, which started in April 2025 and is set to run until 2028, is targeted at energy-inefficient households that are deprived, low-income, or get at least one means-tested benefit.
In its latest funding round, the programme handed £8.4 million to a consortium made up of Cheshire East, Cheshire West and Chester, and Warrington’s local authorities.
There was also money on offer for Halton Borough Council, which joined the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority’s consortium, and secured part of a £31.8 million award.
So if you’re eligible and live in any of these councils, you could get as much as £30,000 worth of measures.
This includes £15,000 for energy performance upgrades like a solar & battery system, and an additional £15,000 for a low-carbon heating system, like a heat pump or electric storage heater.
How many homes in Cheshire have solar panels?
30,851 homes in Cheshire have had solar panel systems installed, according to the most recent government data.
This means 6.5% of the county’s 476,501 households have gone solar – which is higher than the national average of 5.8%.
To learn more about the popularity of solar panels in different parts of the country, read our guide to how many homes have solar panels in the UK.
Is Cheshire sunny enough for solar panels?
Cheshire is definitely sunny enough for solar panels. In fact, it receives more sunlight than most of the UK, getting 1,178 kilowatt-hours per square metre (kWh/m²) per year – 7% above the national average.
This figure will vary a bit depending on where you live in Cheshire, but it’s an excellent indicator.
In the solar industry, amounts of sunlight are measured via ‘solar irradiance,’ which defines the sun’s average intensity in a specific area.
It’s tracked in kilowatt-hours per square metre – that is, how much energy makes it from the sun, across 93 million miles of space, to a particular square metre on Earth.
As you may expect, the more intense the sunlight that hits your panels, the higher the kWh/m², and the more solar electricity your system will produce – meaning higher savings for your household.
Typical solar panel output in Cheshire
System size (kWp) | No. of 450W panels | Roof direction | Annual output (kWh) |
|---|---|---|---|
4.9 | 10 | East | 3,727 |
4.9 | 10 | South | 4,673 |
4.9 | 10 | West | 3,694 |
These output numbers are all based on a solar home in Darnhall.
We've picked a 4.9kWp system because it should generate more than enough electricity to match the average UK household's electricity consumption, which is 3,400kWh per year, and because it was the average system size in 2025, according to the MCS.
When your solar panels produce more electricity than you can use or store in your battery, you can sell this excess energy to the grid via one of the best SEG rates.
While this happens with almost every UK system during summer, installations in Cheshire should be able to benefit from this extra income stream more often.
Please note: you won’t necessarily generate as much solar electricity with your system, since your home will have its own unique characteristics – but it should give you a good idea of what’s possible in Cheshire.
Is it worth getting solar panels in Cheshire?
It’s certainly worth getting solar panels in Cheshire – more so than it is in most UK counties.
Cheshire gets high levels of solar irradiance, especially compared to the national average, which means its residents can save hundreds of pounds per year by switching to solar.
There’s a reason why 6.5% of Cheshire’s households have already gone solar – and that percentage will likely increase in the near future, as energy bills stay high, and heat pumps and electric vehicles become even more common across the UK.
If you’d like to go solar but you’re put off by the upfront cost, consider Sunsave Plus, our all-in-one residential solar and battery solution that’s tailored to your home, and delivered as a monthly subscription with no upfront cost.
It also comes with the 20-year Sunsave Guarantee, which includes 24/7 monitoring, maintenance, a free battery upgrade, a free inverter replacement if necessary, and downtime cover.
