2. Team Renewables
Team Renewables launched during 2020, when domestic solar installations were less popular than any other time since 2009 – and yet, it’s thrived.
This is partly explained by its founders, Etienne Hilaire and Rhys Davies-Kenny, who have the experience, skills, and passion for customer service that any installer needs to succeed.
Managing director Etienne has been in the renewable industry since 2011, often works with large housebuilders, and “likes to blow off the cobwebs by going for a run, climbing, and mountain biking (well, falling off).”
Rhys, who acts as operations director and electrical operations supervisor, is used to installing solar panels on new-build houses, social housing sites, and solar farms.
Together, they have what they call “a simple ethos: work together to improve our environment and lives through the delivery of smart, renewable, energy saving and carbon reduction technologies.”
The company serves customers from Nottingham up to Harrogate, via Manchester – but the Rotherham-based installer is rooted in Yorkshire.
This is shown by Team Renewables’ front-of-shirt sponsorship of the local Brinsworth Whitehill under-15s football team during the 2025/26 season. Its slogan – ‘Together Everyone Achieves More’ – is visible under the logo.
Team Renewables fitted solar panels to my home 3.5 years ago and given their outstanding service, advice, installation and after sales support there was nowhere else I was going for my home battery. Thanks guys!

3. Power Sonic
Many installers position themselves as family-run businesses, but Laura and Mark Allison have more of a claim than most.
The Allisons founded Power Sonic in 2006 – making it one of the oldest solar installers in the UK – and two of the firm’s lead electricians are their sons, Matthew and Nathan.
These tight bonds and an emphasis on “high-quality, long-lasting systems that offer our customers true value” have helped the business attract a host of happy reviews, which is perhaps why it’s lasted longer than any of its competitors.
You can find the company in the small town of Driffield, nestled in the gorgeous Yorkshire Wolds, where Mark also runs an installer-led training course for aspiring electricians.
As well as installing solar gear made by the likes of Sigenergy, SolaX, and Tesla, Sonic Power also fits EV chargers and takes care of general electrical work.
Top quality install from Power Sonic with everyone on the team knowing their own role. A challenging install but after a lot of graft and fair weather I have a system that is performing fantastically.

4. Solar 365
This company also uses equipment from top-tier manufacturers, operates across the region, and – as you might expect – primarily focuses on solar.
Co-directors Jordan Davis, Jules Harwood, and Luke Watts only founded Solar 365 in 2022, but it’s already amassed dozens of positive reviews.
Many of these praise Jordan, with one customer saying he was “fantastic throughout” and “didn’t sugarcoat things – he was really upfront and honest”.
From a relatively scenic business park in Finningley, this Octopus Energy Trusted Partner also offers air source heat pump installations and residential roofing work, as well as aftercare packages for solar homes.
And the company gives back, too. It’s sponsored both the Heart of Doncaster Volunteer of the Year Award and Club Doncaster Titans, a football team for people with disabilities or mental health conditions.
Had install done by Solar 365 a week ago and everything went smoothly. All arrived on time, all installers were professional and work was done quickly and to a high standard.

5. Oval Renewables
Sam and Jessica Featherstone pivoted to solar installations in 2019, after Sam had spent seven years learning the ropes as an electrician.
The company he calls his “baby” has succeeded in a competitive market, growing to eight members as of November 2025 – and the installer’s solid principles have played a large part.
By valuing “high-quality workmanship, fairness and innovation”, the firm intends to “provide every customer with first-class customer service”. So far, it’s worked out well, with reviewers commending the team’s professional approach.
From its office on a former Royal Air Force base, next to the Yorkshire Air Museum, Oval Renewables sells solar products from the likes of SolarEdge, Sigenergy, and Tesla – but as Sam explained, this is only part of the story.
He said: “It's okay buying really good equipment, but I would say it's more important choosing the right company to fit it, because they're the ones who are going to help you make the most of that equipment.”
For many households, Oval Renewables is that company.
After nearly two months our Oval Renewables solar and battery installation has worked and produced electricity far beyond our expectations. The quality of the installation and materials used is of an exceptionally high standard.

6. FEC Renewables
Oliver French has been an electrician for his entire adult life, ever since he completed his qualification in electrical installation and engineering at Doncaster College – so when he opened FEC Renewables in 2022, it made total sense.
At this point, the local boy and motorcycle enthusiast has all the know-how you’d hope for, and has managed to hire a skilled team that regularly earns enthusiastic customer reviews.
Located on an industrial park near the small towns of Maltby and Tickhill, FEC Renewables also installs heat pumps, EV chargers, and air conditioning systems, and offers “solar care plans”.
These aftercare packages include inspections, cleaning, calibration checks, and performance reports.
Overall, this is a very impressive and cohesive team who clearly take pride in both their workmanship and their customer service. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend FEC Renewables to anyone considering a solar installation.

A 4.5kWp solar & battery system costs between £10,393 and £10,890 to buy and install in Yorkshire, on average.
This includes 10 solar panels with a 450-watt peak power rating, and a 5kWh battery.
It’s typically cheapest to purchase your system in East Riding and most expensive in West Yorkshire – though the range is narrow, so your location shouldn’t make too much difference.
We've added the cost of getting a 5kWh battery because it can massively increase your returns.
A battery empowers you to use more solar-generated electricity at home – known as self-consumption – which means you buy less electricity from the grid.
You can also register for the best export tariffs and time-of-use import tariffs, and join grid flexibility services like virtual power plants.
Around 94% of new solar panel installations in the UK include a battery, according to data from Flexi-Orb and the EPVS.
There are multiple reasons why you could end up paying a different amount for your solar panel system, like its size, the installation’s complexity, and the installer you choose.

Are there any grants for solar panels in Yorkshire?
There are a couple of local schemes in Yorkshire, offered by local authorities in combination with private companies – here's more detail on each one.
Home energy loans
In December 2025, the West Yorkshire Combined Authority launched Home Energy West Yorkshire to help residents tackle rising energy bills.
And the service has since partnered with not-for-profit lending firm Lendology to provide households with low-interest loans for solar panels, as well as measures like insulation, double glazing, and heat pumps.
Homeowners are provided with free, impartial advice, and if they’re happy to proceed, they can take out loans of £5,000 to £25,000 to spend on these energy efficiency products.
Lendology has already worked with several local authorities in England, including Cornwall, Dorset, Bristol, and Devon.
Solar Together West Yorkshire
Solar Together assists homeowners and small business owners in a specific area to get a discount on their solar installations through collective buying.
It’s not a government grant; it's a programme run by private Dutch company iChoosr, in partnership with local authorities.
In London, it secured 20-30% discounts for its customers, according to the Greater London Authority.
When it came to West Yorkshire from July 2024 to May 2025, its prices were “up to 42% below the usual market rate”, according to the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, which spent £58,000 on the scheme.
The initiative arranged for 645 installations of solar panels and batteries, with more than 6,300 panels going on buildings around the county.
Solar Together only comes to specific counties every so often, and for a limited time, but Home Energy West Yorkshire has said: “We are planning the next phase in 2026”.
Unfortunately, the scheme can also come with significant downsides. To learn more, read our comprehensive guide to Solar Together.
National grants
Homes in Yorkshire can access some national grants – and if you’re eligible for any of them, you should absolutely consider applying.
Solar panels can cut your electricity bills by hundreds of pounds per year, shrink your carbon footprint, and increase your property’s value, but the upfront cost is often high. Grants can help with that.
To see which schemes you might qualify for, use our grant eligibility checker.
Warm Homes: Local Grant
The Warm Homes: Local Grant provides local authorities around England with funding to improve the energy efficiency and heating systems of eligible homes.
It's mainly focused on energy-inefficient households that are deprived, low-income, or receive a means-tested benefit.
The scheme, which started in April 2025 and is set to run until 2028, has handed more than £9.5 million to Yorkshire counties.
This includes £6 million for North Yorkshire Council, £2 million to City of York Council, and £1.5 million for East Riding Council.
If you’re eligible, you could get up to £30,000 of this grant money. This includes £15,000 for a low-carbon heating system – like a heat pump or electric storage heater – and £15,000 for energy performance upgrades.
These measures include a solar & battery system, as well as other improvements like insulation, draught-proofing, and double glazing.
Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund
This UK government scheme provides funding to social housing landlords, including local authorities, so they can improve the energy efficiency of their properties with measures like solar panels and insulation.
The initiative started in October 2020, firstly operating as the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund, then in its current guise since September 2024.
It’s awarded more than £1 billion of funding in total , and in its most recent round, it gave more than £50.6 million to Yorkshire councils and social housing associations.
The vast majority of this money was handed to West Yorkshire Combined Authority – which received £25.7 million – and North Yorkshire Council, which got £21.9 million.
The government also awarded millions of pounds to East Riding Council, City of York Council, and the South Yorkshire Housing Association.
Homeowners can’t apply to the scheme, but if your landlord received funding, you can contact them to advocate for your social housing to be included in any measures.
Energy Company Obligation (ECO4)
This is the government’s main scheme for reducing domestic emissions – and if you live in a low-income or vulnerable household with residents on at least one of a list of benefits, you may be able to get some funding.
Unfortunately, the scheme ends in December 2026.
ECO4 is a way for the government to compel large energy suppliers to make energy-efficient improvements in deprived households, at no cost to the inhabitants.
The initiative can get you a free solar panel system, as it has done for more than 65,000 homes – though only if your property is heated with electricity, like 11.2% of households in England.
For more information, read our full guide to the ECO4 scheme.
How many homes in Yorkshire have solar panels?
133,919 homes in Yorkshire have had solar panels installed, according to the latest government data.
That means 5.7% of the region’s 2,356,000 households have switched to solar – which is exactly the same as the national average.
For more information on the popularity of solar panels in different parts of the country, read our guide to how many homes have solar panels in the UK.
Is Yorkshire sunny enough for solar panels?
Yorkshire is sunny enough for solar panels – in fact, it receives more sunlight than most of the UK, with Hessay (reportedly the exact centre of Yorkshire ) receiving 1,195 kilowatt-hours per square metre (kWh/m²) per year – 8% above the national average.
This number varies slightly across the region, but it’s an excellent indicator.
Hessay’s figure is based on the European Commission's Photovoltaic Geographical Information System, which provides regularly updated levels of solar irradiance.
In the solar industry, amounts of sunlight are tracked via ‘solar irradiance,’ which assesses the sun’s average intensity in a specific place.
It’s measured in kilowatt-hours per square metre – that is, how much energy makes it from the sun, across 93 million miles of space, to any given square metre on Earth.
As you may expect, the more intense the sunlight that hits your panels, the higher the kilowatt-hours per square metre, and the more solar electricity your system will generate – resulting in higher savings for you.
Typical solar panel output in Yorkshire
System size (kWp) | No. of 450W panels | Roof direction | Annual output (kWh) |
4.5 | 10 | East | 3,455 |
4.5 | 10 | South | 4,370 |
4.5 | 10 | West | 3,390 |
These output figures are all based on a domestic installation in Hessay.
We've chosen a 4.5kWp system because it'll usually generate at least enough electricity to match the average UK household's electricity consumption, which is 3,400kWh per year.
When your solar panels produce more electricity than you can use or store in your battery, you can sell this excess energy to the grid through one of the best SEG rates.
While this will happen with almost every UK system during summer, installations in Yorkshire should be able to benefit from this additional income stream more often.
Please note: you won’t necessarily produce as much solar electricity with your system, since your home will probably be different from this property – but it should give you a good idea of what’s possible in Yorkshire.
Is it worth getting solar panels in Yorkshire?
It’s absolutely worth getting solar panels in Yorkshire – and more profitable than it is in most parts of the UK.
Despite its cloudy weather, Yorkshire benefits from high levels of solar irradiance – especially compared to the national average – which allows its residents to save hundreds of pounds per year by switching to solar.
There’s a reason why 5.7% of Yorkshire households have already gone solar – and that percentage will likely rise in the coming years, as energy bills stay high, and heat pumps and electric vehicles become fixtures across the UK.
If you’d like to go solar but you’re put off by the upfront cost, consider Sunsave Plus, our all-in-one residential solar and battery solution that’s tailored to your home, and delivered as a monthly subscription with no upfront cost.
It also comes with the 20-year Sunsave Guarantee.
At Sunsave, we install across all of Yorkshire – so if you’re wondering how much you could save with a solar & battery system, enter a few details below and we’ll provide an estimate.
