To be included on this list, these installers all had to meet five key criteria:

  • Certified by MCS or Flexi-Orb
  • Accredited by RECC or HIES
  • Approved by TrustMark
  • Registered with NAPIT or NICEIC
  • Rated 85% or higher by customers on at least one top review site

We also looked at installers' workmanship warranties, as well as which ones provide solar subscriptions, because they're a vital way to make solar more accessible for people who can’t afford the upfront cost.

Sunsave was the only top-rated company that fulfilled that particular requirement.

We run through our methodology in more depth near the end of the article.

It’s great for people who want to avoid the upfront cost of solar, but don’t qualify for any solar panel grants in Scotland.

And we're a Which? Trusted Trader, making us one of the highest quality installers in the industry, according to the UK's consumer champion.

We’ve installed solar & battery systems in England and Wales since 2022, but we expanded into the southern half of Scotland in 2025, all the way up to – and including – Dundee and Perth in the east, and Dumbarton in the west.

We’re aiming to expand our coverage in Scotland in the not-too-distant future, but we already have plenty of Scottish customers who are making savings with Sunsave Plus.

To learn more about our customers’ experiences, check out our reviews page.

As you’d probably guess, Mark Glasgow’s focus wasn’t solar when he launched this firm in 2015, but the ironically named owner has since expanded into solar panels, batteries, and heat pumps.

And it’s certainly paid off. The company’s earned thousands of positive customer reviews, it was named UK Enterprise Awards’ renewable specialists of the year in 2023, and it’s become a Which? Trusted Trader.

The business is still mostly concerned with boilers – the vast majority of its Trustpilot reviews discuss boiler installs and repairs – but its move into solar has been well received.

Of its solar Trustpilot reviews, 93% come with five-star ratings. They praise the staff’s hard work and efficiency, from electricians and roofers to the admin team.

As a result of his success, Glasgow has been able to launch the Glasgow Boiler Company and the Energy Training Academy, which helps engineers learn how to install gas, solar, and electric vehicle charger systems.

Key points

  • Impressively high customer review score
  • Mainly installs in the Central Belt
  • Thousands of positive Trustpilot reviews
  • UK Enterprise Awards’ renewable specialists of the year in 2023
  • Provides a decent five-year workmanship warranty
  • One of four Which? Trusted Traders on this list

It’s rare to come across a company where every single member of the team delivers such a consistently high level of customer service, professionalism, and care. We are absolutely delighted with the end result.

EVi Renewables is another Which? Trusted Trader that mostly sticks to the Central Belt, but the Dunfermline-based installer has its own story.

From its base on an industrial estate near two martial arts schools, the company has reportedly helped ‘EVians’ (as it calls its customers) save an average of 78% on their energy bills.

Co-founder Neil Beattie focused on EV chargers when he launched the firm in 2017, but its swish branded vans now deliver solar & battery systems and heat pumps to both residential properties and businesses.

Beattie served in the British Army for years before launching EVi Renewables, and the company has since signed the Armed Forces Covenant, which is a pledge to value and support military personnel.

Key points

  • Says it saves customers 78% on their energy bills
  • Installs solar & battery systems, EV chargers, and heat pumps
  • Serves homes and businesses
  • It’s signed the Armed Forces Covenant

The quality of work is impeccable. There was a slight delay to the programme and I would have appreciated better communication but overall I am very pleased with the system and the customer service from EVi.

The fourth and final Which? Trusted Trader on this page covers the whole of Scotland from its base in the small village of Gorebridge.

Brothers Christopher and Nicholas Leisk have managed to earn exclusively four- and five-star Trustpilot reviews since they started this venture in 2022 – and it seems to be down to their customer-focused approach.

The Leisks – who have leaned heavily into the Viking theme, as you’ll see – offer a 10-year workmanship warranty called the Valhalla Guarantee, which comes with a rare added bonus.

They explain: “We guarantee your system's official MCS production estimate for the first year. If it underperforms, we pay you the difference. No fine print, no excuses.”

If you choose to become a Viking clan member (as they term it), you can get one of a few solar packages: The Watchtower, The Stronghold, and The Citadel, described respectively as vigilant, resilient, and ultimate.

They’re also available on finance, at 12.9% APR.

When you get a quote, you’ll be asked more on-theme questions, such as “Where stands your fortress?”, “What is your monthly tribute to the grid?”, and “Does your chariot run on lightning?”.

Key points

  • The firm has exclusively received four- and five-star Trustpilot reviews
  • Covers the whole of Scotland
  • Owned by brothers Christopher and Nicholas Leisk
  • Offers a 10-year workmanship warranty called the Valhalla Guarantee
  • Will pay the difference if your system underperforms in its first year

From the very start at the beginning of my enquiry through to completion and beyond I can only say what a delight to work with! ALL my (many) questions answered before, during, and after signing and installation.

Founders Carlos Tomas Callado and Chris Reilly met in 2017, before setting up the firm in 2021.

Together, they’ve created a business that regularly attracts praise from customers for its reliability, communicativeness, and punctuality.

More than 170 five-star reviews on Google is an impressive record, especially as the installer has also managed to succeed on Checkatrade and become an Edinburgh Trusted Trader.

This isn’t a Which? accreditation, but it is a government-supported initiative that helps locals to find reputable companies.

Speaking to Sunsave, Chris had a simple explanation for Spartan Electrical’s popularity.

“We care,” he said. “We treat our customers’ houses like our own, and we take the time to explain the stuff that some tradespeople don’t.

“We also really make sure everything’s perfect for our clients. If they’re not happy, we’d never proceed. It’s our number one priority to make sure the customer is happy, and that we leave the house spick and span.

“It’s not just about getting as many installations as possible for us; it’s about saving money for our customers.”

Key points

  • Founded in 2021
  • Impressive ratings on Google, Checkatrade, and Edinburgh Trusted Trader
  • “We treat our customers’ houses like our own”
  • Both founders are highly qualified electricians

Spartan Electrical recently installed our solar panels and an EV charger, and we couldn’t be happier with the entire experience. From start to finish, their service was professional, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable.

IES is an Edinburgh company through and through. It was founded in 2013 by local boy Mark Denholm, who went to school in the east of the city, and has become a pillar of the community.

It sponsors local football teams Tranent FC and Livingston United, and counts the Palace of Holyroodhouse, Edinburgh Castle, and Edinburgh University among its clients.

The multi-skilled team is prepared for almost anything: they regularly install battery storage systems of more than 20 kilowatt-hours (kWh), as well as security gear, EV chargers, and heat pumps.

And if you want to pay them a visit, the company has an actual shopfront on Parsons Green Terrace, just north of Holyrood Park – a rarity in the industry.

Key points

  • Mainly installs in Edinburgh
  • Rooted in the area – sponsors two local football teams
  • The joint-oldest installer on this list
  • Has plenty of experience fitting large storage battery systems

Everything was explained throughout install as the day went on. The guys were highly knowledgeable when I asked questions and gave me peace of mind. No mess, no issues, just a great performance.

Over the past decade, Jorro has become a fixture in Glasgow.

The company, which works on an industrial estate just outside Cranhill Park in north-east Glasgow, is now certified to fit Tesla Powerwall batteries alongside solar panels and EV chargers.

It’s also received a large number of five-star reviews. Some of these mention owner David Pickles, who moved to Glasgow in 2001 for university and never left – but more than a quarter namecheck technical sales director Steven McMahon.

The deluge of praise has seen McMahon be called “extremely helpful”, “full of enthusiasm”, “very honest and reliable”, “a genuine source of knowledge”, and “great at keeping in touch”.

One wrote that “Steve restored my faith in installers having integrity,” while another said: “I was amazed by Steven (McMahon)'s passion, knowledge, and approach.”

The firm does offer maintenance and servicing, but only on an ad hoc basis, so you’ll have to pay every time you think there might be an issue.

Key points

  • Based in north-east Glasgow
  • Serves the whole of Scotland
  • Fits Tesla Powerwall batteries as well as solar panels and EV chargers
  • Offers one-off maintenance and servicing, but no packages

Jorro are a superb company supplying correctly planned Solar and Battery systems at a fair price. Steve McMahon's depth of knowledge and enthusiasm for green energy is a credit to the company.

When this firm was founded in May 2013, before any other company on this list, just over 29,000 households in Scotland had gone solar – and only 1,407 in its home city of Glasgow.

In the subsequent rise of solar, Homeshield Scotland has been there every step of the way, helping the country soar past 140,000 solar homes in recent times.

The installer, which also fits windows, doors, extensions, and heat pumps, has collected thousands of Trustpilot reviews that applaud their reliability.

One happy homeowner said: “Customer satisfaction is their main priority, which is clearly reflected in their workforce.”

Homeshield Scotland has also taken awards back to its industrial estate office in south Glasgow, such as the UK Enterprise Awards’ Best Home Improvements Company of the Year in 2025.

Key points

  • Founded in 2013
  • Also provides windows, doors, extensions, and heat pumps
  • Won the Best Home Improvements Company of the Year in 2025
  • Has earned thousands of positive Trustpilot and Google reviews

Homeshield have been fantastic from start to finish. Kept in touch through the fit. Couple of snags which they are in the process of rectifying. Would highly recommend. Fitters also great!

Marie and Greg Michie run this family-led firm with the help of Reece Sawers, who was Greg’s first apprentice and now serves as his fellow director.

The business has grown from just Greg to a team of 21 that can serve the whole of Scotland.

Greg – whose initials form the GSM of the company’s name – said on the firm’s YouTube channel: “Our customers consistently choose us because we've got over 200 five-star reviews across Google and Trustpilot.”

He added that he leads “an expert team who put the customer at the heart of what we do. We don't send a salesman to do our survey. In most cases, you'll get me.”

Greg, who grew up in the local area, has been an electrician ever since he left school around three decades ago. This experience and local know-how shines through in customer reviews, which repeatedly describe a knowledgeable, professional team.

Reece is also a figure in the local community. When he’s not assisting Greg in overseeing GSM Electrical’s departments, he plays as a left-back for local football team Crossgates Primrose FC.

Key points

  • Family-run firm with strong Fife roots
  • Director Greg Michie has around three decades of electrical experience
  • It’s grown from a one-man band to a team of 21
  • Serves the whole of Scotland

When it came to installation the level of professionalism was very high. They weren't the cheapest option, but we're glad we chose them as they seemed to want to get things right the first time. We'd be happy to purchase from GSM again.

Trustpilot review (March 2026)

How did we choose the best solar panel installers in Scotland?

We assessed thousands of solar panel installers in Scotland against a few key principles.

To qualify for this list, firms had to have the crucial accreditations and certifications that guarantee a high level of quality and reliability.

An MCS or Flexi-Orb certification and NAPIT or NICEIC registration was compulsory, along with a HIES or RECC accreditation and a TrustMark membership.

Any Which? Trusted Traders were given priority, as this is a particularly high bar to clear.

We then looked at the customer ratings given to each company on reputable sites like Trustpilot, Checkatrade, and Google Reviews.

And finally, we looked at whether any of the remaining installers offer solar subscriptions – and if not, how long their workmanship warranties are.

Let’s go through each of these factors in more detail.

Accreditations

We chose accreditations created by the following organisations as the most important hurdles for solar panel installers to clear, due to their integrity, independence, and expertise:

  • MCS, which has created a standard for low-carbon products, installers, and installations. To qualify, installers must know the standards, prove they can consistently meet them, and demonstrate a commitment to customer care.
  • Flexi-Orb, whose renewable installation scheme has set a new, higher industry standard. It's the first to be accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).
  • TrustMark, the only government-endorsed quality scheme in the UK for works in and around your home. To become a member of this non-profit entity, installers must prove their work and customer service is top-notch.
  • RECC, a customer protection body for renewable energy installations that regularly vets its members.
  • NICEIC, a leading certification body for the electrical contracting industry in the UK. To gain a certificate from this organisation, installers must complete a course that proves they can carry out relevant installations.
  • NAPIT, a government-approved accreditation body for home services. For installers to join this organisation, they must have certain qualifications and demonstrate that they can perform their job safely and competently.

Customer review score

We only accepted installers with an average customer rating of 85% or above, as we were looking for the best of the best.

And since small sample sizes don’t benefit anyone, we only allowed in companies that have received more than 50 reviews.

We limited our search to Trustpilot, Which?, Checkatrade, and Google, as they’re the most reputable review sites.

Seeing as Checkatrade uses a 10-point rating system, while all the others rank firms out of five stars, we standardised scores by presenting them all as percentages. This makes them quick and easy to comprehend.

Solar subscription

Solar subscriptions are a whole different prospect compared to a basic solar panel loan.

At their best, they come with 24/7 monitoring, maintenance support, downtime cover, and a free battery upgrade. They're also long-term, meaning the overall cost can be spread out over many years – even decades.

Solar subscriptions are therefore a great way for the industry to bring the benefits of solar panels to as many homes as possible.

Because of this, it was crucial that we worked out which of the best installers offer this invaluable service, which removes the primary barrier to going solar: the upfront cost.

Around half of UK households have less than £5,000 in savings, according to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) . Without a solar subscription, they’d have no route to the lower electricity bills that an effective installation can offer.

We don’t view solar products that require a roof lease as a solar subscription, since they come with a long list of additional drawbacks.

Next steps

Through exhaustive research and stringent criteria, we’ve found the nine best solar panel installers in Scotland.

If you’re looking to switch to solar, your next step should be to contact the installers that cover your region, and request a free survey and quote.

When it comes down to it though, Sunsave is the only top installer with a solar subscription that allows you to get a solar & battery system and a generous aftercare and support package – all with no upfront cost.

We install in Scotland, so if you’re wondering how much you could save with a solar & battery system, enter a few details below and we’ll provide an estimate.
