The Sunsave Home Battery package is a standalone battery, which we install at your home. The package includes the kit, installation, 10-year warranties, and access to two exclusive tariffs from British Gas.

It’s just a bigger version of the battery in your phone (much bigger). Anything that runs on electricity can run on your home battery.

Your home battery will charge up on electricity from the grid when it’s cheap, and you can use that power when it would otherwise be more expensive to buy.

Once we’ve installed your battery, you can sign up to one of two exclusive British Gas tariffs:

Store&Save

• With £37.5 monthly bill credit, to cover the cost of your battery in full for 2 years
• 22p anytime rate – 20% lower than the price cap

Store&Reward

• Beat the price cap with the lowest fixed rate on the market
• 11p anytime rate

Rates for both tariffs are fixed for 24 months.

Sunsave Home Battery Plus is available on finance

With this option, you pay £0 upfront, and you own the battery immediately. Then, over the 10-year term you pay a fixed monthly fee that doesn’t change. This is flexible, too: you can overpay, or pay back early, with no extra costs.

Sunsave Home Battery Standard is upfront purchase

With this option, you pay cash for the kit. We take a 15% deposit when you sign the contract, and the remainder once we’ve installed your battery.

Yes, regardless of how you choose to pay for it, you are the legal owner of the battery from the day we install it.

Right now, we don’t recommend UK homes get plug-in batteries due to safety concerns. It’s fundamentally unsafe to connect a plug-in battery to just any old socket in your house.

British plug sockets are not designed for bi-directional energy, so there’s a risk of overloading the circuit, overheating the wires and causing fires.

Current UK wiring regulations state that plug-in batteries should be installed on a dedicated circuit, which means paying for professional installation by an electrician.

It’s also worth bearing in mind that plug-in batteries are also very small (around 2kWh per module) and therefore only suited to homes with low electricity usage.

The Sunsave Home Battery package comes with 10-year product warranties and a 10-year insurance-backed workmanship guarantee from Sunsave.

If there are any problems resulting from the installation, this guarantee covers the cost of labour and materials to make things right.

Both these protections apply whether you pay upfront or on finance.

To be eligible, you need to:

• be a homeowner, between the ages of 18–75
• not have solar panels, an EV charger or a heat pump
• have annual electricity usage between 3,100kWh and 4,500kWh
• have a working smart meter
• opt in to give British Gas control of your battery charging

No. You can’t sign up to an export tariff to sell excess electricity back to the grid alongside with these tariffs. Right now, there aren’t any export tariffs on the market available for people with just a home battery.

Your battery will be 10kWh, which is a good fit for households that use between 3,100–4,500kWh per year.

Yes! Our batteries are modular, meaning you can add another battery on to increase your capacity if you want to.

Bear in mind that to be eligible for Store&Save and Store&Reward your usage needs to be between 3,100–4,500kWh per year, so if your usage increases or decreases too much you could lose access to the tariffs.

The ideal location for a battery is on an exterior wall near the meter, or in your garage. One of our battery experts will work with you to find the best spot.

Most battery installs are all wrapped within one day. There’ll be minimal disruption, and all our installs are carried out by qualified professionals.

If you already have an electric vehicle, heat pump or solar panels, you’re not eligible for the Store&Save or Store&Reward tariffs.

No, we don’t currently offer any backup power functionality with our home battery. It’s unlikely you’ll need backup power though: according to the latest Ofgem report, the average household in the UK experiences fewer than one outage per year, and loses electricity for around 36 minutes in total.

The numbers are falling, too: the average UK home experiences 38% fewer power cuts now than it did in 2010.

Typically, batteries last about 10-12 years before they need replacing. This is when they tend to start operating at below 70% of their original capacity.

If you’ve paid on finance, you can either pay off the balance left on your contract, or take the battery with you. Just let us know if you want to take it with you, and we’ll quote you the cost of having it uninstalled, moved, and reinstalled at the new property.

You’ll have to sign up to your tariff again after you move, and if your circumstances have changed (for example if it’s a much bigger house and your usage will be a lot higher) you may not be eligible. The tariff rates may also be different when you re-sign up than they were when you originally joined.
