We’re thrilled to announce that insurance provider Aviva will cover Sunsave Plus customers with a bespoke insurance policy for their solar & battery systems. The policy was brokered by Howden.

Aviva, which has more than 18 million customers and 320 years of experience, will streamline its process around new installations, to give Sunsave Plus customers protection from day one.

The policy is included as part of our 20-year Sunsave Guarantee, which offers monitoring and maintenance, a free out-of-warranty battery replacement, insurance against damage, fire, and theft, and downtime payments if your system doesn’t work.

You’ll only get this level of protection from Sunsave Plus, the UK’s first solar subscription, which recently launched.

With Sunsave Plus, you’ll receive the best-in-class kit that will work seamlessly, look excellent, and save you money from day one.

This unique proposition for UK customers aids our mission of making solar power accessible to all households by tackling the initial cost of going solar, which is the main barrier to households adopting this eco-friendly, wallet-friendly technology.

What are people saying?

Aviva’s deputy head of renewable energy, Nick Evans, said: “We all have an important role to play in supporting the transition to net zero, and bespoke policies like this can help to encourage environmentally friendly ideas to become reality.

“By working closely with both Sunsave and Howden, we’re supporting the accessibility and affordability of renewable electricity for households.”

Howden’s global head of renewable energy, Deborah Duss, said: “Howden is proud to have partnered with Aviva to deliver an effective insurance product that gives Sunsave insurance customers peace of mind in the event the solar and battery systems are damaged.

“Insurance has a crucial role to play in enabling the energy transition to be successful.”

Sunsave co-founder Ben Graves said: “We are delighted to have worked with Aviva and Howden to put in place an innovative insurance cover enabling us to launch the UK’s first solar subscription service.

“This cover provides peace of mind for our customers and marks another important milestone in bringing the power of solar to all households across the UK.”

Who else is backing us?

Aviva and Howden’s vote of confidence is yet another string to our bow, after we attracted financial backing from the government – in the form of £2 million of Green Home Finance Accelerator funding – and a host of prestigious investors.

In total, we’ve received more than £11.2 million in the two years since Sunsave was founded, so you can be sure we’re built to last. Our backers include:

  • The UK government’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero
  • Norrsken, a top impact venture capital fund
  • Plug and Play (previously invested in Paypal and Dropbox)
  • IPGL (previously invested in Elvie and FootBalance)
  • Stuart Rose, Chairman of Asda
  • Michael Spencer, founder of Nex Group/ICAP
  • Roland Rudd, Founder of Finsbury
  • Bill Nussey, author of Freeing Energy

What next?

This will provide our customers with even more peace of mind as they embark on the UK’s first solar subscription.

Sunsave Plus is up and running, with our early customers happily benefiting from their installations – and we won’t stop until we achieve our mission to make solar accessible for all households.

If you’d love to go solar but have always previously been put off by the costs, Sunsave Plus could help. Check out our Sunsave Plus page to find out more and start your journey to solar savings.
